I'm fundraising in memory of someone very special to me, to honour their life and help support rangatahi impacted by cancer.

Canteen is a cause close to my heart, and any donation, big or small, means a lot. Every dollar makes a real difference to ensure rangatahi never have to face cancer alone.

Why I'm Fundraising:

This is dedicated to my father Karlis Velde (Karl) who passed away after a battle with bowel cancer. Karl cared deeply about young people, so we want to fundraise in his memory to support young people who are also battling cancer. He lived a very inspirational and meaningful life, always active, always building his family and community, and always supporting many young people in their journey to adulthood.

Farewell Dad

Wednesday 14th Jan
Today we farewelled my father with a beautiful service at the Harewood Crematorium, attended by close family and friends and many of my father's colleagues from his many jobs/ walks of life. Thankyou for joining us today, we are deeply grateful. 

Karl - my father - made others better simply by being himself — devoted to his children and young people, a steady and generous presence in the lives of friends and family, a natural leader whose warmth, humour and integrity left a mark wherever he went. 

To many he was a constant source of support, inspiration and kindness; to others, a gentleman whose approach to people and the world earned deep admiration. 

Reflecting on the tributes we received, for which we are deeply grateful, I am struck by the realisation that a rich life is not built in a day. And that, if we choose to, we can go on building that richness to the very end. By being open to learning new skills, and making new friendships at any time in life. By cherishing and protecting those long term friendships shaped over many years. By acting with compassion and understanding so our community is accepting of all people.

Rest in Peace Dad.
